I can scratch this off my bucket list now: I mentioned years ago that I wanted to get a men’s Brannock device. Well, I was at this storage unit thriftstore and apparently someone with a shoestore (or two Bannock devices anyhow) defaulted on their space… so I got the coveted men’s model AND a women’s model for $5 each. Woot!!
A book I read years ago about the history of everyday objects said that (from after its creation in 1926 up until… the last few years, it turns out) Brannock didn’t sell their foot-measuring tools to the public, so if you wanted one you either had to be associated with a shoestore or be in the right place at the right time to obtain one secondhand (as the author of the book was).
